Palawan-Chinese Province Friendship Deal – Palawan and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in China recently signed a “friendship agreement”, first time, after the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration favoring the Philippines against China’s claims over the West Philippine Sea.

In a report by PhilStar, the signing ceremony, first of its kind, was held in the provincial capitol of Palawan, Tuesday night, together with Ningxia vice governor Wang Heshan. Wang said that the agreement seeks to improve the relations between China and the Philippines.

The said agreement talks says that, “the two sides will carry out, in accordance with the principles of equality and mutual benefit, exchanges and cooperation between Palawan and Ningxia in various forms in the field of economy, trade, science and technology, culture, education, sports, health, personnel, etc. to promote common prosperity and development.”

The said signing of the agreement conforms to the principles of the foundation of the diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines.

Wang also stated that President Duterte’s pronouncements of keeping the friendly ties with China and by being open to talks over the current dispute over the West Philippine Sea.

The Chinese governor also hopes that the relationship between China and the Philippines would continue for the next 600 years.

According to the former foreign affairs secretary Delia Albert, the timing of the agreement was great to “keep the momentum in terms of the relationship between China and the Philippines.” Albert added that this action is a good opportunity to “get things on track”.

The Philippine delegation also went to Ningxia and Albert said that they, too, were well received with warm welcome, saying that the Chinese Governor were pleased with their presence.
