Even at the age of 50, Lucio Tan Jr., son of the Filipino-Chinese industrial tycoon, still competes in basketball games without minding playing against youngers ones.

Tan stands at 5’9”, says that he can still beat younger, faster, and taller players through his experience.

In a report by Inquirer, Tan plays at the shooting guard position and said that what he does during the game is passing the ball around and finding open shots.

According to longtime trainer Jonnel Cruz, Tan is an excellent ball handler who utilizes his “perfect timing, coordination, and reading of the opponents defense” in order to go defeat opponents.

Cruz added that the 50-year-old shooting guard is a three-point shooter and can drive and lay-up to the basket despite having back problems.

Tan is really a competitive person as this August, he will be joining the Philippine team who will be competing in the 25th Asean Veterans Basketball Tournament to be held in the country. Another thing, he will also be joining the World Veterans Basketball League to be held in Shanghai, China this November.

According to Tan, basketball has been the best exercise for him as like the sweat and the intensity the game gives.

“I enjoy the camaraderie with the team which I lead. You can look at it from any angle—fun, a test of skills or a mind game like chess,” Tan says.

The now looked-up businessman started to love sports since childhood. At the age of 12, he already became a member of the national swimming team. Also, after being sent to Singapore for high school, he then ended up taking basketball as his main sport.

Studied in Beijing, he joined the basketball team of the university where he is studying and had the “training of a lifetime.” The report added that the workouts where about drills that would prepare a player for sudden bursts in basketball and other intensities. Also, the drills let him develop more agility and quick footwork.

The report said that Tan can score 100 points on an average during his 30s.

Lucio Tan Jr. was the President and CEO of Tanduay Distillers, Inc., a Member of the Board of Directors of other companies owned by Tan that includes the Philippine National Bank, Philippine Airlines, Allied Bank, and PAL Holdings, Inc.
