De Lima on handshake with Duterte before SONA: an “Ice Breaker”

“It tried to dispel the notion that we are ‘mortal enemies,” Leila De Lima said in an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.

President Duterte was on his way to the rostrum when he cut short and reach De Lima to greet her.

De Lima shared that it was the third time she and Duterte met. She recalled during her interview that their first two meetings happened at the time Duterte was still the Davao City mayor.

Leila De Lima, a former Commission on Human Rights chief and Department of Justice secretary, has been critical over the statement of the longtime Davao mayor against criminals and his fight against corruption and other issues of the country.

Meanwhile, the first-ever presidential report of Duterte took place on Monday, July 25, 2016. Held at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, Duterte’s speech started around 4 p.m. and it run through for at least 1 hour and 33 minutes.

On his speech, Duterte tackled several topics such us the government’s fight against crime, federalism, human rights, traffic and issues regarding transportation, peace talks with the communists and environmental matters particularly climate change.
