Incoming minister Arthur Tugade said, that the initial talk with a company that supplies 35-seater cable cars in South America are already in the process of agreement and once approved, this will be very historic in which this newest mode of transportation will benefit million people.

Tugade told during ANC’s ‘Headstart’, “Pag nagdagdag tayo ng kalsada at nag-construct tayo, lalong makaka-traffic. Kung gusto mo ng additional capacity, pumunta ka sa itaas,”
“Suffice to say, for the moment, that is seriously being looked into,” he added.

Tugade us pursuing that  the project could possibly be implemented first in the Pasig and Makati business districts.

On Thursday, Duterte who will assume the office will ask “special power” in the to solve the traffic problem that he considered as one of the country’s crisis.

The special power includes doing away with public bidding for some projects in infrastructure and opening subdivision roads to traffic

According to a study by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, due to traffic congestion the country loses an estimated 2.4 billion pesos a day.

  1. If what Aquino has said that the rapid increase in the number of private cars being sold to the public (and will be expected to further increase as the economy continue to grow) is what’s causing the traffic problem, no amount of cable cars will resolve the problem. It will only be very costly and would not really significantly reduce the traffic jam.

Here are things you might consider while you’re installing commuter trains:
    1) Install a Toll Booth for incoming cars to Metro Manila area to discourage entry and unnecessary trips.
    2) Make “ride-sharing” among commuters mandatory for those companies operating with over 100 employees. Alternatively, companies with over 100 employees should be made to schedule its employees in SHIFTS to avoid influx of commuters on busy hours. Example: a) First shift to come in 6:00A-3:00P, b) Second Shift to come in 7:00:A-4:00P of c) Third shift 8:00AM-5:00PM.
    3) Support the DOT in implementing the rule that NO PRIVATE GARAGE, NO SALE OF CAR.
    4) Install a sign “NO PARKING AT ANY TIME. VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED AT OWNER’S EXPENSE” zone on major commercial streets that affect the flow of traffic.

    • You make some good suggestions, and I agree fully that no amount of cable cars will help with traffic congestion. However, even implementing your suggestions would barely scratch the surface in dealing with the traffic congestion. In fact any suggestions would really be a bandaid approach to this enormous problem. What is really needed is more infrastructure. The vast majority of existing infrastructure is so outdated to side on the ridiculous. Edsa for example, was completed in 1989. That was 27yrs ago. That is an eternity in infrastructure yrs. But it is what it is. Metro Manila needs new infrastructure and it wont be cheap. Secondly, Although the jeepney and the trikes are a status symbol for the Philippines, they are very antiquated when it comes to dealing with commuting p(removed)engers. Jeepneys tend to carry a max of 16 p(removed)engers and trikes carry max of 4. This means to get large volumes of people around you need 100’s if not 1000’s of units to move commuters from place to place. This just adds to the problems of congestion. I would suggest a few changes. 1) Eliminate both the trikes and the jeepneys in Metro Manila and replace with a city transit system of buses, similar to North American cities. One benefit, less vehicles on the road, 2nd benefit, carry more p(removed)engers more quickly through cities. 2) Create a bus lane on major thoroughways to allow buses to get to destinations without interfering with car traffic. 3) Tighter traffic enforcement. The creation of an actual traffic enforcement police. Their job would be to enforce traffic laws, that would among other things ensure drivers drive safely, don’t go into counterflow, and enforce by tickets those who violate traffic laws. The revenue generated from this would 1) help sustain the traffic police force, 2) help with public education on traffic law adherence 3) help to finance further infrastructure needs. Another suggestion would be to create more MRT routes though out Metro Manila to work in conjunction with the city bus transit system.
All these suggestions will not eliminate traffic congestion completely, but is a good start to get things, moving again. I for one being a owner of a vehicle in Metro Manila, can see the need for these types of actions.

      • @Micheal, indeed that’s a good suggestion just to add one more. It would be great to add a subway system that is connected to LRT and MRT stations the subway system will lead to frequently visited places like churches or malls. This will eliminate the actual need for tricycles that only provide short distance travels and lessen human traffic that adds up to the stopping of jeepneys and buses on the road. It will also promote the use of LRT and MRT. You can have walkalators on these subways so it won’t be too much h(removed)le. btw, these systems are found in Hong Kong and Singapore.

        🙂

Colombia has been using this a long time ago. Cable cars is a lot better to what we have today. As long as they will do something later to permanently ease up traffic, like SUBWAY system, Bus system under govt Control we will just be fine. It will take years to build the SUBWAy for NCR and bullet train to Ilocos and Bicol. Cable cars will work just fine until then. Most people, This is where they unwind from office work stress. Some goes to sleep or just read news books or just meditate while in cable cars. Now when you have this gondola, it is a lot better, quiter good view and you can meditate. cheaper to build. All you need just cable car, cables, towers and stations that can accomodate that wide turn for p(removed)enger to exit and enter where the motor located. With this, most busses, jeeps, AUVs will be eliminated from the road. Since most workers now have a good transportation, instead of driving to work, they just travel on cable cars. Faster, quiter, and peaceful and there you go, less traffic on roads.

    • Elma, I have read all the suggestions. And a thousand and one more could be made. But your suggestions top them all. If we could just focus on them for a start, it would go a long way already in easing the traffic jam in Metro Manila. Sometimes, too many suggestions just lead to paralysis of inaction.

  2. For me,

4.) all the top 1000 companies here in meyro manila will have their own service bus to their people instead of buying company car to their people spend it to the bus.
5.)stop giving renewal to the 10 years old car unless it is p(removed)ed ( really p(removed)ed walang daya.)to the smoke emision testing..wag yung aalukin kung gustong pumasa ay mabibigay kana lang…para tuluyang mabawasan ang sasakyan.
6.)dont allow ANYONE to Park in the street unless the street are inside the subdivision or village.
7.) Taxi,Jeepney and buses even the smallest public utility are being run under the government.the drivers and consuctors are reporting to the goverment office who will manage the public transportation..just one company..with that the goverment can help the people by employing deivers and consuctors and government.maiiwasan ang colorum..dahil iisa ang pwedeng magpatakbo..kung gusto ng taong magnegosyo ng bus sa labas ng meteo manila sila mag operate at sa labas ng ncr ang terminal nila.
8.)proper and strict implimentation of traffic rules..when your driving a car or any vehicle the registration of the car should be under your name unless you are a driver bu you should have autorization from the owner of the car who is registered in the Certificate of the Registration.in that way when the camera sees your car violated then the bill will just goto your house..in 10days that you ignore the said bill your car is no longer allowed in public unless you paid the bill and have you driver p(removed) the exam again.mahirap pero ang pilipino hindi magtatanda kung walang hirap na dadaanan.
9.)require the public that if they will use their old car make sure that on top situation..kapag nasiairaan sila ang nagcacause ng traffic..
10.) ask all the goverment agencies who are related of constructing and diging the eoads to PLEASE put the true standard of the cemwnt that they will put there..if they dig the part of the road make sure that it would be propperly done..so it will not cause of traffic..all the telecomunication companies, cable companies and elwctric companies to please coordinate to the planning of the roads before thwy put their post..there are alot of expanded roads cannot be use because of the wrong putting of the post that can cause traffic..

With this i am very willing to voluntarily work with the DOTC if they will allow me.God bless and be a blessing to our beloved country.PHILIPPINES

  3. I think instilling the driving laws and holding this that dont follow the code accountable. As a tourist who has been visitn ghee Philippines for many years o think the biggest issue is people cutting people up, if you follow the traffic lanes, traffic lights etc it will help the traffic flow more smoothly. A city centre charge could be levied. Cable cars can be relatively fast to install, I guess that’s why he is going down that route, electro trams and monorail are a great resource and are above the roads. I do believe it will have a positive impact but it will be dependent on where the stations are. I am so looking forward to watching the Philippines prosper under this president. Congrats all

  4. I agree with Andy too to have driving laws.. same in Canada and United States so drivers will be more discipline and more careful on the road… Suspension is a punishment for those who disobey the rules on the roads or . Jeepneys , Trikes and specially motorcycles should not be driven along Edsa from Balintawak to Alabang… Another suggestion is to have specific bus stop location to unload and load commuters for each bus company. Each bus company should create a bus stop locations or they should have a designated bus stop location along Edsa, inside Metro Manila…. If it’s not their company bus stop , they should not drop off or pick up p(removed)engers… They should not load/unload p(removed)engers if it is not on their designated bus stop locations or else they will get fine. I am talking about in Metro Manila/ Edsa specially in Cubao..I also agree on Cable cars that they were talking about…More traffic enforcer on the road too…We should cooperate to help our president for a better economy of our Motherland. Our President is so concern to his country and to his people 🙂
