Duterte Warns Abu Sayyaf To Surrender And Free Captives Or Face The Consequences

The incoming President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday that there will be a moment of retribution with the Islamist militant group Abu Sayyaf. Duterte warned Abu Sayyaf group to release and surrender all the hostages or face the consequences of their actions.
Talking with some business tycoons in Davao City, Duterte said he needs time to dismantle Abu Sayyaf.

“I cannot do it just immediately. There are things that I need which we do not have now. But there will be a time, there will be a reckoning. And when it comes, I will just say ‘Surrender unconditionally. Release all prisoners, hostages or we fight,’” Duterte said.

Duterte’s warning came in the wake of the Abu Sayyaf’s threat to execute the two remaining hostages, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad and Filipina Maritess Flor, who were captured from a resort on Samal Island in September last year.

Earlier, the bandits executed Canadian hostages John Ridsel and Robert Hall who were captured along with Sekkingstad and Flor.

The incoming president said that he will only stand up to the issue if he gets a “firm commitment” from the Islamist in continuous peace endeavors that they have “peaceful intentions.”

“I need to have a firm duty from our sibling Moro about the congruity of the discussions.”

“When I get that certification na talagang serene ang aims ninyo and you are not ensuring terrorists… And when I have it in my grasp, I’ll be prepared to go up against.”

Last week, the Islamist militant executed one of its hostages, Robert Hall, after the government failed to gibe the P300 million ransom for each of the four Sama Island captives Canadians John Ridsdel and Hall, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad, and Filipina Marites Flor — who were abducted in September 2015 from a resort in Samal Island.

  2. I think that we should give Duterte a chance. Already he has managed to broker a peace deal with Abu Sayef, hopefully the other two hostages will also be released. Personally I don’t give Abu Sayef a chance to cpntinue. I think this is a no Bull(removed) guy who will deal to the trouble makers.

I think he needs a chance to work his magic. The people have elected him, they believe in him and I say give him a chance

    • He has not brokered a peace deal, where did you get that. There is only one way to deal with these thugs. wipe them out.

  3. As a Canadian my condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones by the terrorists. Now first of all I do agree with some of your thoughts Mike Prater and some of the Filipinos thoughts on this ongoing issue. My opinion on this is: Aquino is the real idiotic moron who let this happen in the first place, his puppets like Roxas, and others are to blame for the Filipinos misery. All Duterte is trying to do is get his country back on track, you have to fight fire with fire and if it takes being a bully at first then good. This terrorist ( bandits cowards and thieves ) group want to terrorize innocent citizens then yes go in there and completely wipe them out with no mercy simple as that, as for the other so called killings of drug lords and pushers to bad wipe them out also time to clean up and get rid of the disease they bring to the young and innocent. As far as helping out various countries America is always the first country doing that. You Filipinos don’t have a problem holding your hand out looking for (removed)istance( just ask Aquino ) but after its be received then you turn your backs on them hmmm typical. Maybe it’s time you people get off your (removed) and do something about it. I congratulate you because first you did by voting for a man who is starting but he can’t do it all on his own he needs you citenzens to start pulling your own weight then maybe this country can rise again and be a powerhouse ( economically and financially stable ). I could go on but I think you get my point. Anyways this is my two cents on the issue at hand. Whether you agree or not well that’s up to you.

    • yeah a lot of hand outs but most of it went to the corrupt government pocket, Nobody knows what happened to the Yolanda relief money, millions of dollars, and other goods, too many corrupt government officials before President Dutertes administration, The country is rich of Natural resources but the greedy government officials fattened themselves instead of helping poor people and fix the country’s poverty line. Too many Filipinos are not educated, could not afford to go to school could not afford to feed their children, dont even have a decent place to live, Filipinos suffered enough from the greedy politicians, if Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and others can keep the peace and clean rich country, Philippines can do it too, they need a strong leader with Iron fist,… Filipinos have no or dont follow rules and regulations , they are lack of discipline and strong leader,… I am really hoping President Duterte to change all that…

  4. The MNLF, MILF, BIFF. isama na natin lahat ng FF’s nila total sa kanila naman lahat yon, if they’re really serious in their intention na mgkaroon ng autonomy sa Mindanao, dapat e prove muna nila na kaya nilang tumulong sa pagsugpo ng Abbu Sayaf. These groups after all these years kept on clamouring about p(removed)ing of BBL pero what we get is these kidnappings. Di ba nila kayang ipakita sa gobyerno natin na minsan tumulong din sila?(if the latest release of the hostages were done in a way na the group mentioned earlier intervened for the release of the remaining two hostages, this comment is moot and academic). Dapat makilahok sila if seryoso sila sa peace process sa mindanao.

  5. he drew a line in the sand and the asg crossed it. now he wants to shake hands with them? wondering how the asg and other rebel groups peceive him now. i dont think the asg is part of the mindanao problem. this group is akin to the somalian pirates who only want to prey on people not work hard to build a peaceful productive community. whatever, good luck to him.

  8. The solution is to enlist the help of one of the three powers that have expertise in dealing with these sort of things. Training of crack units, probably the best in the world being the British SAS (Special Air Service) and who better to emulate? They could train such a crack unit for the Philippines, they work silently and swiftly and with deadly precision, the unit is highly secretive by necessity but very effective. The USA ‘SEALS’ are perhaps a second choice and the Russians are also a good contender, in fact President Putin has agreement from their senate for a ruthless anti-terror unit to be trained and formed under his absolute control with authority to do whatever and wherever they need to route out and destroy. Training is key. Surveillance and intelligence is crucial and the combined intelligence services of the UK and USA is formidable and being able to spot single figures on the ground from satellite is remarkable. Perhaps Russia has the equivalent, I suspect that’s so. The problem in the Philippines is many decades old and it has not gone away and the solution has to be as brutal as the enemy; technology and training is key, surrender or be eliminated is the ultimate.
