Gina Lopez officially accepts DENR secretary.
Chairman of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Gina Lopez has officially accepted president-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s invitation to become his Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) secretary.

Speaking to the press and Inquirer, Gina Lopez, who is known for her environment and mining advocacies, said that she was honored because the incoming president has trusted her the position.
“I’m deeply honored since it’s a controversial decision; that you have decided to trust me. I give you my firm commitment that I will do everything that I can and it’s not only to protect the environment [but also] to eradicate poverty,” she said.
Gina Lopez said that she is “not the usual choice” because of her strong opposition to mining industry, but she added that she is open to suggestions from promining advocates.
She also issued a warning to corrupt DENR individuals, saying that she will eradicated corrupt officials when she assume the office.
“We’ll clean the ranks of DENR. Those accepting bribes, your days are over. Stop it. No corruption is acceptable,” she added.
Lopez is also the chairman of Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC). One of her remarkable projects is the rehabilitation of the Pasig City river through the “Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig” project.
Lopez is sister of current ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio Lopez III. Their father is Eugenio Lopez Jr., the networks’ chairman emeritus.
