In a report by ABS-CBN, since the houses in the mountain in La Trinidad becomes an eyesore in welcoming tourists, a project has been implemented by the Department of Tourism (DOT) Cordillera.

The project under the REV-BLOOM campaign plans to “promote a more sustainable tourism in the region”.

The said project has been adapted from Brazil’s favela paintings. Tam-awan Village artists are the ones responsible for the whole project having sunflower to be the main theme. The project was first in the Philippines.

“‘Yung apat na design pinagsama-sama namin. Pinili namin ‘yung maganda at pinakamadali. Pinili ng artists ‘yung sunflower kasi dati itong puno ng mga sunflower.”

[We have combined the four designs. We have chosen the pleasing and easy (to do). The artists have chosen the sunflower because the place filled with sunflower before], said Jordan Mang-osan, one of the artists of the project.

The report added that the artists have painted more than 18,000 square meters or about 150 houses.

Thankfully, it seems that the project came hand in hand as the homeowners also help in painting their own homes together with the volunteers of policemen and students.

The project will be revealed officially on June 23, but it would still take two months for the completion of the project.

According to the DOT, it also plans to implement the same project in Quirino Hill, Baguio City.

La Trinidad, Benguet is a town near Baguio City, the “Summer Capital of the Philippines”. La Trinidad is famous for its strawberry fields.
