In an interview with DZMM, Tan has defended herself against the critics by saying, “I know po talaga yung El Niño and La Niña.

It can be recalled that Tan answered in the Q&A inciting that, we should start planting trees to fight El Niño, a case of extreme drought. She added by saying that, “If we start now, we will achieve La Niña.” This answer has gained criticisms over the weekend.

On the other hand, Tan said that the Q&A portion of a pageant is very hard no matter how simple the question is. That’s why there are many beauty queens who committed mistakes during the Q&A.

Tan added that if given a chance to turn back time and answer the same question, she would have been given this answer, “El Nino and La Nina are both effects of climate change. If we don’t do our part, we will really experience drought and heavy rainfall. Act now so we can have a better future.”
