Former PNP Chief Purisima Arrested, Released After Posting Bail

The discharged Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Alan Purisima (PNP chief Purisima was arrested, May 20, 2016, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) with the warrant of arrest ordered by the Sandiganbayan.

A report on Manila Bulletin said that the personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group- National Capital Region (CIDG-NCR) was the one which initiated the arrest warrant on the former PNP chief Purisima on his arrival from Butuan City.

The report said that the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division ordered the arrest of Purisima and 10 others from violations of Section 3(e) of Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) due to a controversial contract between the PNP and the courier service Werfast Documentary Agency, Inc., in 2011.

The other people arrested were retired Director Gil Meneses, and dismissed PNP officials including Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles, Senior Supt. Melchor Reyes, Senior Supt. Allan Parreño, and Senior Inspector Ford Tuason.

People from the Werfast Documentation Agency, Inc. were arrested that includes; Salud Bautista, Enrique Valerio, Mario Juan, Lorna Perena, and Juliana Pasia.

But, Purisima posted a P30,000 bail and also paid P600 in legal fees.

Also, all other accused ones posted bail expect Bautista.

Coming from the airport, Purisima was said to be escorted police while going to the Sandiganbayan Sixth Division where he  was freed after posting the bail.

According to Sandiganbayan Sixth Division Clerk of Court lawyer Ruth Ferrer, the dismissed PNP chief voluntarily surrendered.

The report included the case charged against Purisima and the 10 others started from the mandatory policy by PNP to deliver fir3arms licenses through a courier wherein Werfast failed to comply in 2011.
