China Claims Support Of Over 40 Countries In South China Sea Issue

China recently said that there are over 40 countries who were supporting its stance opposing an International legal case filed by the Philippines over the country’s claims in the disputed South China Sea.

In a report by Reuters, China declined the case the Philippines filed and said that the disputes in the region must be resolved through bilateral talks.

It is said that China speeds up its statements of an expected ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration on the case filed by the Philippines.

The report added that China has been claiming almost all the South China Sea wherein studies show its energy potential. It is said that there are more than $5 trillion worth of maritime trade p(–foul word(s) removed–) in the region every year.

Among the countries that have claims in the disputed waters are Vietnam, Brunei, Taiwan, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

“As far as I know, there are more than 40 countries that have made statements or made their positions known through all kinds of means,” said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying as quoted in the report.

Chunying said that more countries are showing their support to China’s stand in the South China Sea issue.

The spokeswoman added that “any unbiased country” would support China.

In a report on GMA News, China has been throwing accusations with the United States regarding the militarization of the South China Sea as China does large-scale land reclamation and construction on the islands in the disputed. Meanwhile, the U.S. expanded its patrols in the area.
