Duterte To The US Ambassador: ‘Are you with us?’
Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte recently asked one thing to the US Ambassador Philip Goldberg; “Are you with us?”, then Duterte got a courtesy call this week.
In a report in Philstar, Duterte said that he would ask the US Ambassador is the long-time ally is with the Philippines.
“I would only ask the US ambassador, ‘are you with us?’,” he said.
Then, after this, US Ambassador Philip Goldberg, according to Duterte showed his intention to visit him personally as the proclamation of the election is done.
The report says that the upcoming meeting of the Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte and Ambassador Goldberg would be the first time for the outgoing mayor to formally meet with an American government official.
With regards to the joint Philippine-US Balikatan exercises, the incoming President is actually against it.
Duterte also would like to get an official report from China on how they captured Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal, saying that the presence of the Chinese in the area prevents local Filipino fishermen from their livelihood.
And he would even ask the previous administration why and how this happened.
“I would like to know from anyone in the previous administration why and how we lost control of Scarborough Shoal. It means the loss of livelihood and security of the Filipino people.”
The Panatag Shoal is just 124 nautical miles from Zambales and still within the 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the Philippines.
But, since 2012, there are Chinese ships occupying the area and just becoming a threat to the Philippines and its people.
Will the Philippines and the US still have that strong bond that’s been there through the years?
