According to SMC President Ramon S. Ang the plan would showcase a world-class international airport which was earlier estimated to cost around $10 billion but the project could be built for less of the said amount. The company also seek an alliance with other conglomerates that would include Manny V. Pangilinan’s group, Henry Sy’s SM Group and the Zobel-led Ayala Corp.

The proposed airport of SMC would eventually replace the old Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila that is now operating beyond its intended capacity. According to some experts, the San Miguel-initiated airport would sit on 1,600 hectares of reclaimed land in Manila Bay and was proposed by the company two years ago to the outgoing President Benigno Aquino’s administration.

In an interview with Inquirer, Ramon S. Ang revealed hat he was invited to propose again under the Duterte administration and noted that he will do what the company needs to be done and asks the government for a public bidding as he plans to present all the designs of the company’s proposed airport.

The SMC President was quoted as saying “If San Miguel is allowed to do the airport I will invite Manny Pangilinan, and Ayala and Shoemart (SM Group). All of them are welcome to be partners,” Ang added. “But as the major partner, I will invite Manny Pangilnan.”

For the past years, the Department of Transportation and Communications tapped the influential Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to find a suitable location for a new international gateway. DOTC Sec. Joseph Abaya said that a JICA-backed feasibility study for Sangley Point in Cavite was still being finalized.

The location in Cavite could cost up to $20 billion to build as revealed by SMC while the proposed SMC Airport in Manila Bay would require an equity of about $2 billion to $3 billion with an estimated total of $10 billion which is a smaller amount compared to the Cavite Airport.

  1. MAs lalong magiging matraffic at hindi accessible na ang lugar na yan. Most ideal pa rin sa Bulacan or Clark then improve expressway access + speed train to Metro Manila.

  2. Firstly, the above article could have been proof-read for spelling before publication. Now on the subject: Why not just consolidate all the international terminals into one? After many years of standing idle, Terminal 3 was finally allowed to operate. I have not been inside that terminal but from the outside, it looks very nice. Improved access and parking facilities can probably be put in place by using contractors who are honest and not corruption as a main goal. I am sure the expense in reconstruction will be so much smaller than the proposed Manila Bay International Airport.

  3. One of the reasons why there is too much traffic in metro Manila is because it is the center of business activities. Why not decongest it by having a world cl(removed) international airport in Batangas ? International seaport in Batangas is operating there to complement Manila seaport anyway.

  7. Di na kailangan pang mag dagdag ng panibagong airport sa Manila. Mas lalo pang magiging traffic sa city. Why not re-develop the existing and operational airport at Clark, Pampanga? As far as I know, it is considered the 3rd most beautiful location in the world as far as aviation is concerned. Area wise, it can accomodate all of modern amenities for a world cl(removed) airport…….. Ps. Please change its name.
