Sense Of History, A Big Factor For Millennial

Millennial Voters – Our history contributed a great impact in the way we live today, in the way our government rule today and the way we believe in particular things today. One certain political analyst highlighted that sense of history is a core factor on how millennial would decide on who to vote this coming election.

Sense Of History, A Big Factor millennial

Managing Editor of Consultancy Firm Stratbase, Dindo Manhit said young voters might be misunderstood the history.

When the 1986 People Power Revolution happened, those who are at the 18 to 34 years old were just 4 years old and younger in the May 9 election.

With the overall total of 54.36 million registered voters, belongs to the millennial is 45.5 percent. These group up in the Aquino, Ramos, Estrada, Arroyo and Benigno Aquino regime.

Manhit said, “They are not made aware of the sins of the Marcos dictatorship, the massive corruption and even victims of human rights.”

He also added that the history books did not discuss these things, and their (millennial) understanding of politics is far different from those who witnessed EDSA.

He also highlighted that though millennials comprise nearly half of the electorate this coming May 9 election, there is no youth vote that is collective in nature. He also added that as can be seen, young voters are focusing on economic issues such as better salary and job creation.

For today’s youth is viewed as “tech-savvy”, social media is one of the major news influencers of today’s generation, but it is still a disadvantage to those youths belonging to a poor family, according to Manhit.

Manhit also added that young people’s choice of candidates are shaped by the news they hear and see on social media.

“But so far no news agency gave an in-depth discussion of martial law,” he said.
