A Syrian refugee Olympic flame carrier bore the Olympic flame a through a refugee camp in Greece even walking in a prosthetic leg.

Ibrahim al-Hussein, 27, who currently live in Greece by an asylum, has been given the honor to be one of the torchbearers of the Olympic flame across Eleonas camp.

According to BBC, al-Hussein was an electrician who used to be competing in swimming and judo in Syria.

But, this has been stopped because of the conflict that arose their country and the people were forced to flee from Syria and used rubber boats to make their way to Europe.

After being given the asylum, al-Hussein then started working in a café in Athens. He now has prosthetic legs given by a private doctor and is now practicing again to compete in swimming and wheelchair basketball.

“I am carrying the flame for myself but also for Syrians, for refugees everywhere, for Greece, for sports, for my swimming and basketball teams,” he said as quoted in the article.

The flame that is lit in the Temple of Hera in Ancient Olympia will be signifying the official opening of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The flame has been carried across the home of the ancient Olympics, Greece.

Then, the flame will be passed to Brazilian officials to be carried in the host country.

In Brazil, there will be about 12,000 torchbearers who will carry the flame across Brazil before the start of the Games in August.
