‘Unexplained Wealth Is Ill-Gotten Wealth’ : Roxas To Duterte
DILG Secretary Mar Roxas recently said that if Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte can’t explain his wealth, according to the law, everything is ill-gotten wealth.
In a report by Inquirer, Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas said that there are no explanations of the wealth of Rody Duterte.
“We have seen in the past month and year, there has been no explanation about where this wealth has come from, as well as his lands, buildings, apartments,” said Roxas as quoted in the article.
Roxas was known to be one of Duterte’s rivals that criticize the mayor for his refusal of his wealth.
Mar said asked in an interview if where these things came from. He even asked if whether these are from loans or financed. Roxas added in the questions asking how the Mayor earned such money.
According to the report, Rody Duterte had P227.4 million in a joint account with his daughter Sara at the Bank of the Philippine Islands branch on Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig City. The said account on 2014 has records of bank transactions.
Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV recently revealed in the media about the Mayor’s received seven deposits amounting P193.7 million during his 69th birthday on March 28, 2014.
After Trillanes’ declarations, Duterte then responded that he is willing to open his bank account even 20 years ago to show he’s not hiding anything. But, he will do it if his rivals will do the same.
In Trillanes’ challenge of opening the accounts of Duterte, here was his response:
“Make it 20 years,” Duterte said in response to Trillanes’ challenge.
