A video of Rep. Neli Colmenares is currently making the rounds online after netizens reacted when the microphone went off while the congressman was still speaking in front of his fellow lawmakers and those senior citizens who were waiting for the highly anticipated move of the congress to veto the president’s decision not to passed the SSS pension increase.
During the session, House Deputy Speaker Carlos Padilla adjourned the last day of session at around 7:30 PM on Wednesday as House Deputy Minority Leader Neri Colmenares was requesting that the session continue. Rep. Colmenares argued that they have counted 213 lawmakers present but to no avail.
Sen. Bongbong Marcos and Rep. Lito Atienza of Buhay Partylist slammed the leadership of the House of Representatives for the abrupt adjournment of the session on Wednesday apparently to suppress moves to override the President’s veto for the P2,000 across the board pension increase for SSS pensioners.
Rep. Atienza, Buhay party-list representative, condemned the political bullying at the House of Representative and particularly vented his ire on Majority Floor Leader Neptaliz Gonzales II who terminated the proceedings.
Congressman Atienza was quoted “We are disgusted with what happened last night during the last session day. Mahigit tatlong oras naghintay ang ating mga senior citizens at pensioners, subalit hindi binigyan ng pagkakataon na marinig ang tinig ng bayan. Sa pangunguna ni Majority Floor Leader [Gonzales], biglang in-adjourn ang sesyon at pinatayan kami ng kuryente at mikropono.” Atienza stated.
