Before the procession started, designated devotees pulled the “andas” or the carriage bearing the image after singing the “Ama Namin” (Our Lord’s Prayer).

The organizers briefly stopped the devotees from pulling the andas when they pulled it in the wrong direction. The choir was then halted and silence was requested for the giving of instructions.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is considered as one of the most attended fiesta celebration in the Philippines. The highlights of the event is the “Traslacion” or the transfer of the 17th century image of the Black Nazarene.

The Black Nazarene image of Jesus Christ is said to be miraculous, it attracts millions of devotees from every part of the predominantly Roman Catholic country. The traslacion commemorates the first parade transferring the image from a church in Intramuros to Minor Basilica in Quiapo on January 9, 1767.
