December 30, 2015 A National Regular Holiday to Celebrate the 119th Death Anniversary of Jose Rizal

Every December 30, the Filipino people will celebrate the death anniversary of Jose Rizal, the country’s national hero. The National government of the Philippines already declared December 30, 2015 as one of the Regular Holidays nationwide.

This year’s celebration of Rizal’s death anniversary marked the 119th year of Jose Rizal’s execution at the Bagumbayan Park now known as the Luneta Park. The late Jose Rizal was executed by the Spaniards during the year 1986, his death sparks the Filipinos patriotism and marked the start of the Philippine revolution against Spain.

Rizal Day was first instituted with a decree from President Emilio Aguinaldo issued December 20, 1898 and celebrated December 30, 1898 as a national day of mourning for Jose Rizal.

For this year’s celebration of the 119th Rizal Day, Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III leads the ceremonies at the Rizal Park in Manila on Wednesday morning. The President arrived at the Rizal Monument at about 8:00 AM together with VP Binay and Manila Mayor Erap Estrada.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines also showed off new jets in a fly-by featuring the newest assets acquired by the AFP during the term of Pres. Aquino.
