Fil-Aussie Cyrus Villanueva Wins The X Factor Australia (Video)

It’s a back to back success for an Australian with Filipino blood in the world-renowned X Factor singing competition after Filipino Australian Cyrus Villanueva was declared as the winner of this year’s edition of The X Factor Australia.

The 19-year-old Cyrus Villanueva followed the footsteps of fellow Filipino Australian singer Marlisa Punzalan, who at 15 became the youngest contestant to earn the title of “The X Factor Australia” last year.

The graphic artist turned singer Cyrus Villanueva beat out fellow grand finalists Louise Adams who was a former band vocalist and singing duo Jess & Matt who finished runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.

Before being named as this year’s winner of the prestigious X Factor Australia, Cyrus Villanueva was known as an aspiring singer who was born to a Filipino father and an Australian mother. He caught the world’s attentions when he took to “The X Factor Australia” stage with his powerful rendition of Labrinth’s “Jealous,” which moved his mentor, American rock icon Chris Isaak, and co-judge Danni Minogue to tears.

For his first appearance on “The X Factor Australia,” Villanueva immediately established himself as an early favorite. He earned a standing ovation from the entire judging panel during the auditions with his acoustic rendition of the aforementioned The Weeknd hit, and wowed Simon Cowell with his version of “Is This Love” a week after.
