The rumors started when a certain Facebook account named “Rodrigo Duterte (Official Account)” had its status posted at 3:34 PM Saturday: “I will run for President of the Republic of the Philippines. Daghang Salamat!”

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte denied the account as his official Facebook account. In an interview with TV5, Mayor Duterte was quoted as saying “Nothing is confirmed yet until I file my certificate of candidacy either as president or as mayor of Davao City,” Duterte insisted in an interview with TV5.

The Facebook post of the alleged official account of Mayor Duterte went viral after it was shared by thousands of his followers. A news report which was posted on GMA News also went viral as the Kapuso news channel reported that Duterte has finally decided to run according to his political adviser Lito Banayo.

Mayor Duterte still stands by his statement last Friday that he has not made a final decision on running for President in the highly anticipated 2016 national elections. The COMELEC already started accepting Certificate of Candidacies from qualified candidates in Metro Manila starting today, October 12, 2015.
