The last time that the Philippines meet China in an Asian basketball competition’s final round was way back the year 1990 during the Asian Games where the Chinese defeated the Filipinos in a game held in Beijing.
Gilas Pilipinas is just down to one final match in their bid for the gold medal of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship hosted by China to earn an outright 2016 Olympic berth, as they take on host China which remains undefeated in the competition.
The Philippines is already assured of a silver medal finish and a repeat of last year’s FIBA Asia in Manila, but from the very start, the Philippines goal is to secure the first Asian berth to the Olympics.
The Philippine national men’s basketball team last made an Olympic appearance during the 1972 Munich Olympics.
