VP Binay Supports INC’s EDSA Rally as Results of Free Speech Despite Traffic

The second most powerful politician in the country, Vice President Jejomar Binay supports the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally as a results of freedom of speech by one of the country’s most popular religious organization. The INC rally was the reason why there’s an EDSA gridlock during the past few days.

Vice President Jejomar Binay spoke favorably on the rallies staged by the INC who questioned the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation of its leaders.

The Vice President explained the constitutional rights of the people to hold protest actions against the government and was quoted as saying “You know, I did not consider my candidacy (for president). It was just a normal reaction of… a human rights lawyer,” said Binay.

The former mayor of Makatic City is known as a human rights lawyer during the Martial Law years as he noted that he was just reacting to the question of why the INC members were on the streets. He made the statement in reply to a reporters’ questions on whether or not he was hurt by criticism that he was merely pandering to the influential religious sect.

Vice President Binay, the leader of the opposition party also stated that if people were inconvenienced by the EDSA protests that caused massive traffic along EDSA, this was a “consequence of freedom of speech.”
