According to statement released by former Davao City Councilor and close Duterte ally Peter Lavina, in the wake of reports that supporters of the Davao City Mayor are insisting that he runs for the country’s top post despite his pronouncements that he was out of the race.

According to Lavina, a presidential derby that will also have Vice President Jejomar Binay, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and Senator Grace Poe could augur well with Duterte who, he said, had a solid group of supporters all over the country.

Mayor Duterte has a strong following not only in the Mindanao and parts of the Visayas region, but the mayor got some supporters in many areas like Bicol, Central Luzon, Southern Tagalog and Metro Manila.

Aside from the Duterte supporters in the Philippines, many Overseas Filipino Workers that may able to vote already expressed their support to Mayor Duterte. For those OFW who can’t vote during the election, they also urged their families and relatives left in the Philippines to support the Mayor of Davao City once he decide to run for President.

One of the most prominent political figure from the Bicol Region, Gov. Joey Salceda earlier vowed to support Mayor Duterte but he had a change of heart after Mar Roxas was endorsed by President Aquino as his preferred standard bearer for the administration party.

Although the governor could not support Mayor Duterte, he underscored Duterte’s solid vote in Mindanao is considered a plus factor for the Presidential candidacy of Mayor Duterte. He also noted that once the votes of Roxas and Poe will be divided both candidates will suffer a huge loss against Duterte.
