CA Orders School to Issue Interrupted Salutatorian GMC

Following the complaint of salutatorian Krisel Mallari that her former school refused to issue her certificate of Good Moral, the Court of Appeals (CA) has ordered Sto. Nino Parochial School to issue the said certificate.

Mallari became controversial after her video was uploaded to social media sites showing she was interrupted and stopped by school officials while she was delivering her graduation speech.

She was qualified in the University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) accountancy program but she cannot be admitted without her GMC.

Her father, Ernesto, and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) has earlier filed a petition before the CA as the school refused to give her a GMC.

In the petition, Mallari stressed that the lack of GMC “will put my education to a halt and my future in jeopardy.”

The officials of the school has formerly said Mallari was not permitted to continue her graduation speech because it was not the “welcome remarks” originally submitted to them.

The school also noted that Mallary’s speech was not a “welcome speech” and may damage the reputation of the batch valedictorian.

The regional trial court, meanwhile, has denied the plea of Mallari, a complaint for injection with damages, stressing that the Department of Education has already issued favorable ruling on the matter and that the school may not be compelled to issue the same certification.

However, in her petition with the CA, Mallari said the trial court’s order was tainted with grave abuse of discretion.
