Sen. Poe: Experience as VP No Guarantee of Being Good President

Sen. Grace Poe has hit back to her critics pushing her not to run in any of the highest positions in the coming 2016 elections because of her political experience.

The lady senator who has topped the recent surveys for both presidential and vice –presidential bets said becoming a vice president first is no guarantee that a politician will be a good president.

Earlier, Sen. Sergio Osmena III encouraged Poe to run for vice-president instead of pursuing a much higher position next year.

“Karanasan ay mahalaga pero kung ang gagamitin nating karanasan ay pagiging vice-president, balikan natin ang kasaysayan…Marami naman ang nagging vice president, tapos nagging pangulo. Pero hindi naman garantiya ‘yun dahil kung nawalasa iyong puso na manilbihan, ikaw ay kakapusin, ikaw ay babagsak. At nangyari na iyan sa kahit sinong may karanasan sa gobyerno bago nagging president,” she told in a radio interview.

Poe has yet announced to which position she will be running for in the 2016 polls but she said no president has said he or she is already experienced about running the country—except those who were reelected to the presidency.

On Osmena’s suggestions, Poe said she respect and understand her former campaign manager in her 2013 senatorial bid.

The dinner in the palace hosted by the president was attended by Poe, Sen. Chiz Escudero and Sec. Mar Roxas who was also eyeing for presidency.

The meeting has not yet came up with concrete and public announcement of political plans in the 2016 polls.

Poe noted that she learned a lot from Aquino’s experience in running the government.

She also confirmed that that will be meeting again with the president this week or before the president give his final State of the Nation Address on July 27.
