WBO Strips Floyd Mayweather’s Title He Won Against Manny Pacquiao

The World Boxing Organization decided to strip Floyd Mayweather Jr., the title he won against the Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao. According to WBO the organization does not allow boxers to hold world titles in multiple weight cl(–foul word(s) removed–) at the same time. Floyd Mayweather Jr., holds three boxing title from the WBO, the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Association (WBA).

The decision of the WBO came out after two months to formally rule the case, a stretch from the 10 days its usually allows. The WBO clarified that it had repeatedly reminded Mayweather of the rule, especially after he pound-for-pound king spoke about affording the opportunity to other fighters.

The announcement of the WBO was released to the media on Monday (US Time) as they formally stripped Floyd Mayweather Jr. of the welterweight world title he won after beating the 8-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, in the match dubbed as the “Fight of the Century.”

A resolution was posted on the official website of the WBO stating that it “is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. as the WBO Welterweight Champion of the World and vacate his title” for his failure to comply with its rules.

Some boxing experts noted that from interim titleholder, the American boxer Timothy Bradley may be formally recognized as the welterweight champion two weeks after winning his match against Jessie Vargas.
