Nacionalista Party Members Cannot Assure Supports if they Run for President

One of the country’s oldest national political party, the National Party (NP) announced to the media that they cannot assure its members who will be running for national positions in the 2016 elections of financial support. The statement was released by one of the party’s member, Senator Cynthia Villar.

According to Sen. Villar, the Nacionalista Party does not have funds to offer to candidates. She was quoted as saying “Wala naman pera ang NP. We will give the support of our political members in the provinces but in terms of financial, wala naman pinag-usapan ganoon ang NP,” she said.

Sen. Villar also noted that the Nacionalista Party have three possible candidates for the presidency and vice presidency next year, namely Senators Antonio Trillanes IV, Alan Peter Cayetano and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Out of the three possible candidates, only Senator Trillanes has declared his plan for 2016, which is to seek the country’s second highest post, as Vice President of the Philippines.

Although it was only Sen. Trillanes who declared his plan, the Nacionalista Party has to wait for the decision of the two other senators before they can declare their support to Trillanes.

Both Senators Bongbong Marcos and Cayetano have expressed their openness to run for president next year, but both have also said there is nothing final yet, as the deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) is still three months away.
