6. 4 Magnitude Quake Hits China’s Xinjian

At least three people died and more than 20 were injured after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit China’s far eastern Xinjiang on Friday.

According to Chinese emergency officials, many traditional houses in the mainly ethnic Uighur region collapsed when the strong quake struck about 160 km northwest of the southern city of Hotan early morning.

China National Emergency Broadcasting has reported on its website that the earthquake resulted to three deaths including a father and a son, and more than 20 injuries.

Up to 4.8 magnitude aftershocks reportedly happened according to US Geological survey.

People took it to social media posting various photos showing the minor damages and cracks caused by the strong quake in roads and infrastructures.

China is prone to earthquakes. In 2008, almost 70, 000 people were kill as a quake hit southern province of Sichuan.

Some groups and activists blame government’s own repressive policies and religious and cultural restrictions to which the government denied.
