Pinoy Group “Triple Fret” Wins First Place at the 27th Japan Guitar Ensemble Festival

Filipino group composed of three female classical-contemporary guitarists won the coveted first place at the 27th Japan Guitar Ensemble Festival held recently in Tokyo, Japan. The trio is composed of Jenny de Vera, Iqui Vinculado and Marga Abejo also known as the “Triple Fret.”

Aside from winning the top prize in the international competition, the Pinoy group also won the Japan Guitar Association Award, the Kohno Guitar Award and the Harumi Award for Best Performance of an Original Contemporary Composition for Guitar Ensemble.

The group “Triple Fret” was formed during the year 2011 and it is composed of students from the University of the Philippines College of Music and the University of Sto. Tomas Conservatory of Music.

Triple Fret already performed in various countries in Asia and Europe as they stands out with its extensive repertoire of Spanish guitar pieces, tangos, jazz standards, Filipino traditional music, and classical pieces, all infused with a style uniquely their own.
