PNP Chief Alan Purisima Returns to Work on June 10 After Six-Month Suspension

Controversial Philippine National Police (PNP) Alan Purisima who resigned from his office recently is returning to work this coming June 10 after serving a six-month preventive suspension imposed by the Ombudsman, as revealed by the PNP Officer-in-charge said Thursday.

According to the announcement of PNP OIC Leonardo Espina, the former PNP Chief’s suspension will end on June 9 and he can return to the country’s police force starting on June 10.

The PNP Official noted that the Ombudsman order was issued last December 4, 2014 but was only served by the Department of Interior and Local Government on December 9, 2014.

Former PNP Chief Purisima mus report to the police holding and accounting unit at the end of his suspension next week, he remains a four-star general of the PNP even though he resigned as PNP chief last February 2015.

The PNP OIC explained further that there can can be only one four-star general in the Philippine National Police. The resignation of the PNP Chief came amid the public outcry over his participation in the botched Mamasapano operation of the PNP-SAF that resulted in the lost of lives of 44 commandos.
