‘Beautiful Mind’ Mathematician John Nash, Wife Killed in Crash

Top honored Mathematician John Nash has died in a car crash with his wife, as to police report May 23.

Police said Nash, who inspired the Oscar-winning film “A Beautiful Mind”, with his wife Alicia were taking taxi in New Jersey when the driver lost control and crashed the car into a guard rail.

The mathematician, 86, is renowned for his work in game theory. He won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994.

The film brought his life as he succeeded in the world of maths and his struggles with schizophrenia.

Actor Russel Crowe, who played him, extended his sympathy and tweeted: “Stunned… My heart goes out to John & Alicia & family. An amazing partnership. Beautiful minds, beautiful hearts.”

The film’s director Ron Howard also tweeted his honor to the late John Nash calling him “brilliant”.

Nash with his wife Alicia, 82, became prominent mental health advocates.

Nash contributions to Mathematics include the study of decision-making.

Added report from the police, the two were thrown from their vehicle while their taxi driver and a passenger from another car were also left injured.

Christopher Eisgruber, the President of Princeton, said he was “stunned and saddened” to what had happened to the couple.

“John’s remarkable achievements inspired generations of mathematicians, economists and scientists who were influenced by his brilliant, groundbreaking work in game theory,” he said.
