MMDA: Lists of Evacuation Centers In Case of 7.2 Magnitude Manila Earthquake

As part of the government’s preparation for a possible earthquake that may hit Metro Manila unexpectedly, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has identified evacuation centers and camps across the metropolitan areas in preparation for a massive quake expected to hit the West Valley Fault.

Marikina

PHIVOLCS warned that in case of an earthquake in Metro Manila, the 100-kilometer-long fault system, which p(–foul word(s) removed–) through various cities and provinces which includes Bulacan, Quezon City, Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Muntinlupa, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna, may cause a 7.1 magnitude quake.

The government agency in-charge of earthquakes in the country estimates that over 30,000 individuals may die and over 100,000 may be injured. In order to speed up the evacuation of residents and the rescue operations, the MMDA has divided Metro Manila into four quadrants:

North
– Caloocan
– Valenzuela
– Quezon City
– San Juan
– Mandaluyong

East
– Pasig
– Marikina

West
– Manila
– Malabon
– Navotas

South
– Las Piñas
– Makati
– Muntinlupa
– Parañaque
– Pateros
– Taguig
– Pasay

Aside from the four quadrants mentioned above, the MMDA also designates operation centers and staging areas which will also serve as evacuation camps for affected residents:

North
– Veterans Memorial Golf Course
– University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman

East
– LRT-2 Santolan Depot
– Marikina Boys Town
– Red Cross Marikina
– Ultra Pasig

West
– Intramuros Golf Course

South
– Villamor Air Base Golf Course

MMDA also noted that athletic fields, sport arenas and memorial parks as well as churches and gyms that will be designated by LGUs will be used as evacuation centers in Metro Manila and nearby provinces and cities. The Metro Manila’s main waterways, the Pasig River will also serve as an alternate route for rescue and relief personnel in the event that bridges in the metropolis are destroyed by the quake.

  1. how many years they learn for the earthquake?any one will not suggest better way for that.how about engineering maybe can solve for disasters like that..i believe they can made lot of old metals for fixt the underground across faultline.but its too late now..seems like spider web burried under that calculate how strong the ground wave to avoid cuts off..

    • No, you cannot bandage up a fault line with metal. Forces are too great. Best you can do is engineer buildings to withstand earthquakes but you cannot stop an earthquake.

    • Are you seriously saying that you can fix a fault line by patching it with metal? Fault line is the reason why there are volcanoes. The friction between the tectonic plates are so great that it melts minerals and metals within the earth’s crust. It is impossible unless we are able to somehow cool down earth’s core. But then again, that would kill earth as well. Please research before making comments like these. Thank you.

      • a fault line is a fault line. that’s why it is called fault because you can no longer correct a damaged. what we can do is to avoid the mistake to be taken. we have to have a big signage where to go incase of problem that will arise. How come our government approved those high-rise building to be built in the middle of Manila. wherein we know that it could create a great disaster. you cannot get out of Manila and go to the Field in Intramuros for safety because of the road block . .We do not have other route. Are we sure that the building in Manila is sturdy enough to stand the quake? Why O why they only care for the money and not the safety of the people?

        • Exactly! That’s what I’m thinking also. Remember the Ruby Tower? That building is not even half the size of the high rise buildings we have at present.

  2. What if the earthquake came with rains and flooding? Malabon and Pasig would not be good areas. Metro Manila needs to be decentralized. There are just too many people there.

  3. Kung ang Pasig River ang pinakaposibleng alternate route para sa relief and rescue, sana or dapat ngayon pa lang magproduce na ang gobyerno natin ng additional boats, ferries and stations sa kahabaan ng Pasig River…

    • based on what I learned last year the said fault moves once every 370years(nearly at this number) and we are nearly at this figure since the said fault has moved..kaya important that we be prepared.

  5. This kind of news alarms people, yet what we can do is to pray for God intervention amidst all these occurrences. Let us unite in prayer as God is so merciful to hear our prayer. We are about to enter the Holy Week and it is very timely to be remorseful of our sins, ask and we shall be forgiven. God bless all

  6. National goverment should allocate a budget for local goverment to buy heavy equipment for cutting and lifting heavy rocks and metals that block roads when the big one hit. But problem is the corrupt politicians.

  8. Facts are facts, the Philippine building code is not engineered for safety in most buildings.Any person can slab together hollow bricks made of compressed sand and cement and left to dry.Your foundations are not safety as on a normal house should be a min of 300 deep with half inch rods running through with mesh F 72 tied to the rods.Any foundation is the key to a building either standing or crumbling.Floor slabs require a thickness as per engineer standards with expansion joints set out.
Many talk about price but whats the price of a human life.In Australia only a trades person can carry out the building process and local council engineers inspect every stage before you can pour the concrete plus a building permit is required.Hollow bricks are a death trap no questions about that
