The world-renowned island of Boracay was chosen to host the second APEC Seinor Officials’ Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM2), and the Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting which will be held from May 10 to 21, and May 23, respectively. The Philippines, is this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Economic Cooperation (APEC) chair.
Boracay island is eyed to be transformed into a world-class convention destination for the coming APEC meetings which will simultaneously be conducted at the Shangril-La Resort Boracay, Crown Regency Resort and Convention Center, and the Paradise Garden Resort Hotel and Convention Center.
Accordingt to the organizers of the APEC Ministerial meeting, the event in Boracay will be attended by 1,500 delegates, which include senior officials and trade ministers from the 21 APEC economies.
The SOM2 is considered as the midpoint of APEC 2015, it will project the progress of agreed work plans and projects discussed by the senior officials during the first SOM held last February 2015 in Clark, Pampanga.
The APEC delegates in Boracay are expected to discuss the continuation of the proceedings last December at the informal SOM meeting in Manila where they launched APEC 2015 theme and agenda “Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World.”
The SOM2 series of meetings will start with 37 various technical working group-level meetings that will culminate in the SOM proper.
