In Review “Your Face Sounds Familiar” Receives Thumbs Up And Criticisms

ABS-CBN’s show “Your Face Sounds Familiar” in its first airing dated March 14 gained the hearts of viewers as it topped the rating, still the show is a hit but critics and commentators put the show’s strengths and witnesses into analysis.

The presence of talented singer-impersonators like Jay-R, Karla Estrada, Edgar Allan Guzman, Nyoy Volante and Jolina Magdangal was lauded by viewers especially because of their high level of performance week after week.

With the craftsmanship and skills of the make-up mavens and prosthetic artists, the quality impersonations were even more assured.

Meanwhile critics say that the resident juror’s comments have a value. Having been too nice and complimentary, the jurors should also be critical and tell what is lacking in every performance as what most viewers want.

This would also encourage the contestants to strive harder to overcome whatever lack they have in their performance and be aware of their flaws.

Most critics also point the choice of the celebrities whom contestants are assigned to play as a problem. There were perfect matches and hits while there are also matches which tend to be so not surreal.

Other contestants seemed to struggle with inappropriate assignments. Given for example is when small Edgar Allan impersonating Gary V, John Travolta and Ricky Martin. Likewise with Nyoy as Justin Bieber which came out on stage visually “off”.

But the show is in the first season and still has a lot to develop. One should be considered is the suiting of the impersonator to celebrities to be spoofed considering the vocals and the looks.

This week’s assignment could either impress the viewers or agree that the show should change tactics.

Karla will impersonate Mariah Carey, Edgar Allan as Toni Gonzaga, Jolina as Manny Pacquiao, Melai Cantiveros as Cyndi Lauper, and Maxene Magalona as Vhong Navarro. Most likely performances from Jay-R as Tom Jones, Nyoy as apl.de.ap and Tutti as Steven Tyler are well anticipated.
