The Philippine National Youth Basketball Team, Batang Gilas made an impressive showing in the recently conducted SEABA Under-16 Championship by defeating Thailand on their second game with the final score at 105-48. The game was held on Friday night, April 17, 2015 at the Cagayan De Oro City.
Batang Gilas U-16 squad led by Samjosef Belangel scored a back-to-back wins in the competition which put the Philippines as title contender. Samjosef Belangel scored with 16 points, eight assists and eight steals for Batang Gilas.
The Philippines U-16 is now undefeated with a 2-0 win-loss card in the competition. During the game against Thailand, the Filipinos were so dominant that they even led by as many as 59 points in a game that shows the Thais score only seven points in the final quarter.
Aside from Belangel, Will Gozum added with 13 points, Rhayyan Amsali added with 12 points while Romulo Berjay had 11 points and eight rebounds for the host country.
The Gilas Pilipinas U-16 squad will next face Brunie on Saturday, the team is under the tutelage of a Filipino coach.
