Mass Transit

The Department of Transportation and Communication leads the implementation of the 12-kilometer underground Makati-Pasay-Taguig Mass Transit System Loop project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme of the Aquino administration.

The first-ever subway project in the country will link Makati Central Business District, the Mall of Asia in Pasay City, and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig according to the PPP Center.

In terms of financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance, the project will cost P378.33 billion ($8.59 billionn), which is considered as the most expensive Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to date.

The subway project will even surpassed the Laguna Lakeshore Expressway-Dike project which has an estimated cost of P124 billion ($2.79 billion).

Once the subway project will be approved by different government agencies, it will become the biggest PPP deal in the history of the Aquino administration. According to PPP executive director Cosette Canilao, they picked BGC’s 26th Avenue as its end point in Taguig City, but noted that the final say will be given to NEDA.
