Manny Pacquiao Not Worried with the Underdog Tag Against Mayweather

The world’s only eight-division title holder in different weight categories, Manny Pacquiao was quoted as saying “I’ve been in this kind of situation many times in my previous fights. It doesn’t scare me. I love being the underdog,” Pacquiao told AFP Sunday

According to some reports, oddsmakers in Las Vegas are giving Floyd Mayweather the advantage in the upcoming May 2 mega-bout featuring Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. Early betting odds in Las Vegas make the unbeaten American boxer a 2 1/2 to 1 favorite to become the undisputed welterweight champion and cement his legacy as pound-for-pound king in boxing.

Despite the huge disadvantage among boxing betting oddsmakers, Manny Pacquiao noted that being an underdog will motivate him to train hard and go for the much-coveted crown.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. currently holds both the Word Boxing Association and World Boxing Council 147-pound titles, while Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao owns the World Boxing Organization title.

Manny Pacquiao also told reporters that he is treating the megabuck bout just like his previous fights, as he began light training for the fight two weeks ago by jogging and playing basketball.

The fighting congressman and the first professional boxer to play in the PBA is slated to return to Manila on Tuesday, and on Wednesday he intends to fly to Los Angeles, where he’ll hold training camp at chief trainer Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, on February 28.
