Surviving SAF Commandos Shared What He Saw During the Encounter (Video)

A survivor of the deadly clash between the Philippine National Police – Special Action Forces (PNP-SAF) shared everything what he saw during the encounter in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN. According to the survivor, dying cops were looking at photos of wife, children and family on their cellphones and he was one of the lucky police who survived to reveal what he saw.

The incident involving the PNP-SAF and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Barangay Tukanalipao in Mamasapano, Maguindanao is one of the worst nightmare a police commando could experience.

The survivor who was only identified as “Robert” was one of the commandos of the PNP-SAF who clashed with members of the 105th Base Command of the MILF and admitted that it was his first time to go to Maguindanao as he fails from the province of Ifugao.

According to Robert, they went to Barangay Tukanalipao in Mamasapano to serve arrest warrants for Zulkifli bin Hair alias “Marwan” and Basit Usman. The incident put the lives of his comrades at risks and he just survived the firefight so he can tell the story of his fallen comrades.

Robert narrated that he saw one of PNP-SAF companions looking at his cellphone moments before he was able to escape, he also saw some of his dead companions while some of those who were injured were just lying on the ground.

The surviving PNP-SAF member noted that he would visit his companions’ family as soon as he can, to tell them what he saw during the last minutes of their encounter against the BIFF and the MILF. He was also thankful to one of his classmates who sacrificed his life to help him escape the deadly battle.
