Manny Pacquiao has found an unlikely ally on his quest to stage a fight against Floyd Mayweather, after the boxing legend turned boxing promoter, Oscar De La Hoya wants Pacquiao to beat Mayweather for his personal reasons and various motives as he supports the Filipino boxing superstar.

The 41-year-old Oscar De La Hoya was quoted as saying in rooting for Manny Pacquiao that “For personal reasons, for myself, I would prefer that Manny Pacquiao wins [over Mayweather],” De La Hoya said.

One of the other reasons why the “Golden Boy” of boxing wants Manny to defeat Mayweather was due to his controversial split decision against Mayweather during their 2007 bout and when he asked for a rematch, Mayweather went on temporary retirement.

Oscar De La Hoya also opposed Mayweather’s insistence to take the May 2 fight date, which the promoter is reserving for his biggest superstar, Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvares. The May 2 bout is also the nearest date to the Cinco De Mayo weekend, which is an important occasion for Mexican-American.

According to Oscar De La Hoya he is also in favor of the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout taking place, noting that is a fight that needs to happen, but the decisions are still at the hands of the boxer and their entire team.
