PNP Budget Officer Relieved Due to Controversial Papal Funds

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered the relief of budget officer identified as Evangeline Martos behind the delayed disbursement of food provisions for policemen during the 5-day-visit of the world’s Roman Catholic leader, Pope Francis who visited the country on January 15-19, 2015.

According to Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina, PNP officer in charge, he already approved the administrative relief of the PNP officer pending investigation by the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM).

Evangeline Martos is ertswhile budget officer of the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) a National Support Unit that was tasked by the PNP to provide close-in security to dignitaries and member of the Papal entourage.

Meanwhile PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor clarified that the fund support released by the National Headquarters to PNP units involved in the Pope security operations was for “food provisions” and not as individual “meal allowance.”

The police officer who was relieved, Evangeline Martos earlier clarified reports that there are missing funds not disbursed to cops who served during the 5-day visit of Pope Francis. There are confusion also about the P2,400 allowance because some of the cops did not complete their five-day tour of duty.
