Timothy & Josephine Desmond “Haiyan” Inspiring Story Featured on Time Magazine

The inspiring story of a Filipina and her American husband, Josephine and Timothy Desmond during typhoon Haiyan made it to Time Magazine’s latest Asia edition. The unwavering faith and compassion towards the families devastated by super typhoon Yolanda in a village in Samar by the Filipina and her husband captured the attentions of the magazine giant and was included in the list of extraordinary people from Asia.

Josephine and Timothy Desmond were featured in teh magazine’s “Above and Beyond,” a special multi-media series of stories which profiles ordinary people who do extraordinary things in the world’s largest continent, Asia.

According to Per Lijas, the author of the Time Magazine’s “Above and Beyond,” Josephine is a native of Maslog and she detailed the humanitarian efforts of the Desmond families in the areas of Maslog, Sorsogon.

The family was able to provide help and relief operations to more than 500 families in the area. Josephine Desmond set up a base of operations in schoolyards and handed out about 20 tons of aid, essential supplies and lifesaving medicine for the entire village.

Timothy Desmond, the husband of Josephine is the chairman of the board of marine theme park Ocean Adventure, was the one who chronicled the whole operation in an online blog although he remained in Subic attending their business venture.

Josephine’s husband led the fundraising efforts, making several trips to Maslog, Sorsogon possible. The Ocean Adventure in Subi was also grateful with the effort of Timothy Desmond and they hopes that the Time Magazine story will “motivate others to do action.”
