During the Leg One of the semi-finals, the Philippine Azkals was able to hold off the undefeated Thailand War Elephants with a scoreless draw at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila but on their second encounter, the Filipinos were not able to perform well and caught off by the offensive weapons of Thailand.

The Philippines defeat against Thailand is considered heartbreaking as they failed to advance to the final round of the regional tournament during the past three editions of the Suzuki Cup, although they were considered as one of the heavy favorites to enter the semis since their underdog tag ended during the 2010 edition.

Thailand War Elephants was able to score an early goal at around 6th minute, and got another two goals in the second half of the game held at one of the most popular football game venue in Thailand, the Rajamangala Stadium.

Chanatip Songkrasin fired a shot from outside the box and scored the first goal for Thailand at around 6th minute. The Azkals had a chance during the 15th minute but Misagh Bahadoran’s attempt sailed over the crossbar.

Kroekrit Thaweekarn scored Thailand’s second goal at around 56th minute, he was also credited for the last and final goal of the game during 86th minute ending the Azkals hopes of defeating Thailand for the first time since the year 1971.

The Philippine will now moved on to the Battle for Third in the AFF Suzuki Cup, their third straight appearance in the Battle for the third and hopefully end their semi-finals losing streak in a high note.
