Kai Honasan, who hailed from Marikina City, said she joined the popular singing competition to prove to her dad that she can make her own name. “This is me, trying to prove to my dad that I can make my own story,” she said.

After she performed, the 25-year-old singer was joined by her father on stage. Senator Gringo Honasan told her that whatever the result is, he will still be proud of her.

During the Sunday’s episode, she  impressed the four coaches of the show, Lea Salonga, apl.de.ap, Sarah Geronimo and Bamboo Manalac, but he eventually chose the latter, saying that she and the rock icon are in the same world.

Bamboo Manalac was quoted saying: “Who has been crazy enough, brave enough, to bring artists like yourself forward to battles, forward to the semis. People say, ‘Hindi ‘to bumabagay, it doesn’t fit sort of a spectrum.’ Sa akin, it doesn’t matter. Ako, it’s about artistry, it’s about growth over prize. Ako lang, I think I’ll be a good coach, right, Dad?”

Kai Honasan is the second member of Team Bamboo, joining the first four chair-turner Tanya Diaz. “The Voice of The Philippines Season 2” airs every Saturday and Sunday on ABS-CBN Yes! Weekend line-up.
