In the article written by Lonely Planet author, Joe Bindlos, he noted that “many would say the time is well overdue for the Philippines to be recognized as the next big travel destinations in Southeast Asia.” he stated.

The Lonely Planet article posted on Monday added further that “With more than 7,100 islands, the Philippines has one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines, fringed by dive-tastic coral reefs, sprinkled with sunbathe-ready white sand, backed by swaying palm trees and dotted with simple resorts of nipa-palm thatched huts,” he added.

The author also noted that the government made an effort to boost tourism in the country, such as the Filipino penchant for street parades and food festivals and the decision of the European Union to lift the travel ban on Philippine Airlines (PAL), all contributed to the factors that the Philippines was included in the list.

Although the Philippines, particularly the streets of Manila had an ever-growing traffic problems but the Lonely Planet author found a silver lining in the problem by describing the benefits of having jeepneys in the country, which he considered as part public bus and part art installation, adorned with extravagant chrome trim, custom upholstery, and hundreds of lights.
