According to the official statement of the San Mig management, James Yap and the rest of Tim Cone’s wards will be called as Purefoods Star Hotshots in the coming PBA Philippine Cup and the entire 40th season of the PBA.

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) also known as Asia’s oldest professional basketball league and the second oldest in the world behind the world-renowned National Basketball Association (NBA) of the United States will open their Fourth decades of professional basketball this coming Sunday, October 19, 2014.

In an interview with Snow Badua’s Spin.ph report, James Yap was so excited with donning his former Purefoods uniform. He was quoted as saying “Gusto ko nga ‘yun eh. Kasi dun ako sa Purefoods nagsimula,” James Yap stated.

The original Purefoods name was replaced during the year 2010 when the management decided to replaced it with B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados. Purefoods produced some of the country’s most popular basketball players such as “The Captain Lion Heart” Alvin Patrimonio, “The Defense Minister” Jerry Codiñera, two of the most prominent Filipino basketball stars in the PBA.

The Purefoods franchise started out as the Purefoods Hotdogs since joining the PBA in 1988 up to 2010. It was then temporarily replaced by the name B-Meg for a total of three years and later on changed to San Mig Coffee Mixers in 2012. In the upcoming opening of the 40th season of the PBA, the team will be back to its former name and will be called as Purefoods Star Hot Shots.
