Metro Manila Floods Turns Cities into Baha Republic (Photos & Videos) (September 19)

The heavy rains brought about by Bagyong Mario and the Habagat turns Metro Manila into a Baha Republic, with some netizens calling the country’s capital as the local version of the movie, “Waterworld.” The Metro Manila floods prompted forced evacuations in areas affected by heavy rains and flooding while various dams in Luzon and in Metro Manila have already rose above normal water levels.

According to the announcement made by the local government of Marikina City, there are more than 20,000 residents near the Marikina River were evacuated from their homes as the water level rose to almost 20 meters, and floodwater submerged motor vehicles, buildings and subdivisions nearby.

Various streets in Metro Manila areas and nearby areas in Luzon were turned into waterways as floods cascaded into low-lying areas. Netizens have reported on various social media posts that some motorists and pedestrians still tried to cross the flooded streets of Metro Manila to get to their destinations.
