First Batch Of Filipino Athletes Headed To South Korea For Asian Games

First batch of Filipino athletes already left the country to compete in the 12014 Asian Games that will be held in Incheon, South Korea. They were led by the country’s flag bearer in the opening ceremonies, Geylord Coveta of windsurfing yesterday, September 15, 2014.

Windsurfer John Harold Madrigal, shooters Hagen Topacio and Eric Ang, and rowers Roque Abala, Alvin Amposta, Nestor Cordova, Edgar Ilas and Benjamin Tolentino took the flight together with the Filipino Athletes. This is based on Philstar.

The 2014 Asian Games is set to start this September 19-October 4, 2014. This is set to feature 439 events and 36 sports as well as discipline. It is known as the largest sporting event in Asia which is governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

The said athletes will be welcomed by chef-de-mission Richie Garcia who had been there since last Wednesday. In addition, the athletes are actually  accompanied by just a handful officials.

According to Garcia who was the first man and will be last man for the Filipino delegation in Incheon, everything is already in it’s place. He is referring to the accommodation, uniforms and travels and any other stuffs that will be needing by the athletes.

The second batch of delegation will be leaving the country tomorrow. They are composed of 35 athletes as well as officials. They will be from tennis, wushu, weightlifting and judo, and fencing. Small medical staffs will also fly together with them to Incheon.

While the main bulk of the athletes and officials will be leaving the country this Saturday, September 20, 2014. Members of Gilas Pilipinas will also fly with them on the same day. Triathlon, bowling, archery and sailing delegates will also be leaving on Saturday.

All in all, 150 athletes will be representing our country in this game. Let’s just hope, wish and pray for their win in this 2014 Asian Games. Indeed, they are all our countries pride.
