According to Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, the declaration of Regular Holiday on October 6, was contained in Proclaimation No. 875 signed by Philippine President Benigno Simeon Aquino III on September 12, 2014.

The Eid al-Adha holiday is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim, also known as Prophet Abraham by Christians, to follow God or Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael.

Aside from being one of the Islamic festival, the Eid’l Adha also marks the end of the Hajj or the pilgrimage to the Muslim’s Holy City of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The day of the “Feasts of Sacrifice” is based on the declaration made by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body.

The feast is part of the symbolic unity between Muslims and other religious groups in attaining long-lasting peace in the country. According to Malacanang’s declaration of Eid’l Adha Festival, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended that the observance of Eidul Adha will be October 6, 2014.
