LGUs Declared Suspension of Classes Due to Typhoon Luis (Sept. 15, 2014)

Selected Local Government Units (LGUs) in the country declared suspension of classes on Monday, September 15, 2014 due to weather disturbance as Typhoon Luis (Kalmaegi) continues to intensify.

Nueva Ecija, Ilocos Norte, Cavite, Bulacan and Rizal are among the first provinces to announce class suspension. The typhoon made landfall in Cagayan-Isabela area at around 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2014.

Typhoon Luis continues to intensify with 130 kilometers per hour maximum sustained winds and gustiness for about 160 km/h.

  • Valenzuela City (preschool to high school)
  • Parañaque (preschool to high school)
  • Pasig (preschool to high school)
  • Manila (preschool to high school)
  • Hagonoy, Bulacan (elementary)
  • Malolos City, Bulacan (preschool and elementary)
  • Sta. Maria, Bulacan (preschool to high school)
  • Ilocos Norte (primary and secondary)
  • Laguna (preschool to high school)
  • San Fernando and Angeles City, Pampanga (preschool to high school)
  • Rizal (preschool to high school, public and private)
  • Makati (elementary to high school)

The state weather bureau, PAGASA has issued Public Storm Warning Signal (PSWS) No. 3 in Cagayan including Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte,Abra, Kalinga, Isabela, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur and Ifugao while Batanes Group of Islands, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Pangasinan and Nueva Ecija has been issued with Signal No. 2.

PAGASA noted Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 in Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Northern Quezon and Pollilo Island.

The national government earlier gave its reminder regarding the rules and guidelines on suspension of classes. According to its announcement, the decision to declare class suspension is solely rendered to the affected local government unit and prior to PSWS number as well.
