Azkals Defeated Chinese Taipie & Enters Phil. Peace Cup Finals (Highlights Video)

The Philippine national football team more popularly known as the Philippine Azkals defeated their former conqueror Chinese Taipei and advanced to the finals of the shortened Philippine Peace Cup held at the historic Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night. The Azkals vs. Chinese match up ended with the final score at 5-1 in favor of the Philippines.

The Filipinos scored a total of four goals from Mark Hartmann, with two goals while James Younghusband and team skipper Rob Gier scored one goal apiece. Chinese Taipei player Chen Yi Wei scored an own goal in favor of the Filipinos. The only goal for Chinese Taipei was scored by Yen Ho Sin who scored Taiwan’s goal at around 80 minutes.

The Philippine Peace Cup 2014 is now a two-day affair featuring four nation tournament, the International Football Federation (FIFA) already issued a directive that the competition will adapt the new “two-match international window” regulations. The tournament was originally set to be a single Round-Robin Tournament.

During the first game of the Philippine Peace Cup, the Asian Cup-bound team Palestine and Asean contender Myanmar battled for a finals berth. Myanmar defeated Palestine in the first match with the final score at 4-1, therefore they will advanced to the finals of the competition and will face the three-peat seeking Philippine Azkals.

The Philippine Azkals dominated the Chinese Taipei national football squad as they poured out a total of 14 shots and 10 of them were on target, while the Chinese Taipei squad had 9 shots and 6 shots on target.

The losers of the first game, Palestine and Chinese Taipei will be battling for the bronze medal this coming Saturday, while the Philippines and Myanmar will face each other in the finals of the tournament for the gold medal.
